Do you stick with Windows Media player, or do you use something else?

I'm finding Winamp still great, and the open source VLC really does "play everything."

I mostly use WMP but also have VLC (for those files that WMP has trouble with) and Zune player installed. I like the Zune graphics for when i'm listening to music and my computer is idle but WMP gets the most use by far.

I rarely use my PC for playing music. All of my music collection has been ripped and stored as FLAC lossless which WMP doesn't recognize, and I use my Sonos music system.

Occasionally I will also rip and keep files as MP3 too. For those I will either use WMP to play them or I'll use WMP to stream them to my Sonos.

I use MPC+CCCP on Windows for video; Foobar2k for audio. VLC or MPlayer on Linux for video; Amarok for audio.

I use J. River Media Center 15 and have for some time. There isn't much that it doesn't do!
The options are wonderful as is the interface. For instance I can view something on YouTube and Media Center will download it too.

I have 7000+ music files. My laptop sits on top of my receiver and I play through a USB port.

When I want "minimalist" I use Foobar2000.

I'm just getting into this more than before but I am using Winamp because in one case I found it played a file that WMP would not play. I also use the free app Audacity if I want to take a recorded file and edit out undesirable stuff before converting to mp3. However I should say an earlier version of Audacity (1.2.3) seems to have produced some files which later turned out to have errors, and thus are inaccessible. I do believe a disk editor will enable me to salvage these files, when I get time. Audacity works with Lame to produce mp3 files. It is also worth mentioning that I have bought several CC Witness devices from CCrane in Fortuna, CA. Each device allows me to record weeks and months of radio programs directly to mp3 files in just one 16 GB SD card. With a small FM transmitter I can easily broadcast to any FM radio in the house thus my wife and I can listen to whatever we want from any room in the house.
