Default Do You Use A DVR? (Digital Video Recorder)

I have been using DVRs provided by Comcast, my cable provider. I would not be without one!

What I pay for cable is outrageous. Okay, it's my choice. I watch little enough of the programming out there, but what I do like to watch I don't want to miss. My DVR will record two shows at the same time, and I can watch another recorded show while it's doing it.

Movies and other TV that I want to see, or I think I might want to see, may be on when I can't see them at the scheduled time. That's where the DVR is terrific. I can set it to record a series or a single show, and I go through the guide in advance looking for movies that I want to record.

When the Olympics was telecast I recorded it all and then watched at my leisure. Best of all, I don't have to watch commercials. I just advance past them with my DVR remote. And, any show I am watching keeps 45 minutes available for instant replay even if I am not recording, so I can pause it to take a break, come back and start where I left off.

Nope. We don't use them. We pretty much watch DVD's and the occasional Discovery channel show.

Jon.

I am with you, I love the DRV that Comcast has available. My only complaint that the bedroom unit will not communicate with the unit in the livingroom. Wish I could access the things recorded/stored on the second unit on either unit.
Cheers,
Colby

I used to record what I couldn't watch on TV on my PC. The Tuner card I have installed worked as a PVR, functionally equivalent to a DVR. Since the switch to digital broadcasting and the Comcast requirment that you have a decoder on every television, I can no longer use my PC tuner.

For the little television I watch, most of which is the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel, Travel Channel and Food Network, I'm not sure it's worth the extra money.

I have the DVR service through Mediacom... I don't record a lot of programs, but I REALLY like being able to Pause or Rewind live tv. That makes it worth the price of admission to me...

I've used several DVRs, and nothing competes with Tivo so far as interface and usability is concerned. Plus with a Tivo you can upgrade the storage and put 1.5 TB in the thing.

I don't know how well Tivo units hold up. The one I have now has been doing fine for some time, but I have had to exchange several over the last few years, so the $10/mth rental is great compared to buying three over the years.

I have three directivo units an R-10 and two Hughes units (one Mod-ed and one stock) I won't be without a DVR anymore, only way to enjoy TV imnsho .

I started using the directivo when I worked over night as a trucking dispatcher. It was the 'only' way I could get to watch any prime time tv. I got 'hooked' in a hurry and even now, that I've gone back to a 9-5 job, I still enjoy the freedom from the schedule it allows.

You are so right!

I pay over $100 per month for cable that runs 24hrs/365 days, the $10/mth for a DVR at least lets me use a lot more than what we could just in prime time!
