Default Sony BDP-S570

I just treated myself to a new blu-ray player - the Sonly BDP-S570 and so far I'm liking it very much.

I bought the top if the line Sony BDP-S500 when it was new (for a small fortune) while the blu-ray/HD DVD war was still raging. It served me well, and continutes to work but
  1. It was BIG
  2. It was S L O W and took forever to load a movie

Back to the BDB-S570 ...

The S570 is small 17"w x 1.5"H x 8"d so it fits easily on other components freeding up valuable shelf real estate.

The S570 loads fast and movies start quickly - almost no delay. Sweet.

It has built-in WI-FI so it can connect to your home network and automatically download firmware updates as well as stream content from providers such as YouTube, NetFlix, Pandora among others as well as access your PC.

There's a free iPhone app to control the player, view disc information and find related content.

An upcoming firmware release will also enable 3D capability if you have a 3D-ready HDTV - something I don't have so can't comment on.

All-in-all, a great player with a LOT more functionality than the one it's replacing and of course at less than half the price of the first unit.

The iPhone app sounds interesting...

How does it work?

Edit: I just checked out the app... sounds pretty convenient.

The app is nice. Took me a little bit to get used to it, but you're right, it is convenient.

If the blu-ray player isn't powered on, the app won't work. It needs to be able to recognize a compatible device before it functions.
