Anyone here still use CB's in their cars or trucks? I'm just curious...
I'm thinking about replacing my old junk CB with a new Cobra 29 LTD Classic and adding another one to my sons truck. Jon. __________________

CB's are still popular with truckers and they are a requirement for guys that do a lot of off-roading. Even at hunt camps the Citizen Bands are very useful.
There are lots of new features in CB's now but I don't think most are very useful. Blue tooth is pretty popular now so you can jack your phone through the CB and lots of them have dual band weather reception. Jon. |

Wow - I haven't heard anyone mention CBs in ages.
I had one in my car back in the 80's before cell phones as part of an emergency kit in case I had trouble driving my Pinto between home in NJ and college in PA.

My DH and all the other hunters have CB's in their trucks. I always thought hunters and truckers were the only ones who used them anyway.

We still use them when we travel in groups on RV and camping trips too.

I still have one in my truck but need to get a new antenna. They are still useful while traveling mainly for finding out information when there is a traffic jam. The small FRS radios work well to chat with others in a group traveling together.

We have a bunch of the FRS radios too. They come in real handy while on foot in the woods while hunting. When we travel on the road they work ok as long as we stay close together. But the CB's can give us a range of 20-30 miles easily. Some people say they can get as much as 40 miles but I don't know if we've ever been able to do that with our radios/antennas.

I haven't actually used one of my CB's since the '90's but both are stowed away in the garage just in case. Between cell phones and HAM radio I've not had much use for them, but I hang on to them anyway. Nice to have old reliable there just in case, or in the event we travel with a larger group who are not HAM's.
